Growth Forum encourages greater housing

Auckland Regional Growth Forum and Regional Council Chair, Gwen Bull says a greater housing choice is needed to match the greater range of lifestyles of Aucklanders in the future.
"With the regional population expected to reach 2 million by 2050 the region will need forms of housing built at higher density, in addition to the lower density types that are currently more predominant in Auckland."
The Regional Growth Forum today released a pictorial representation of the housing types discussed in the Auckland Regional Growth Strategy and the neighbourhood density each type achieves.
"Higher neighbourhood densities contribute to important outcomes such as improved public transport."
Cr. Bull says that a greater range of housing types will be vital in accommodating the next million people in a way which sustains strong supportive communities, enhances of the natural environment, creates a high quality living environment and is easy to get around.
The Auckland Regional Growth Forum encourages all organisations involved in the policy development or provision of housing to use the terms and definitions described in the poster.
"This is a tool that will reduce confusion and improve clarity and consistency across these organisations - I strongly encourage its use," says Cr.Bull
