“We’ve Had The Talk On Fixing Auckland, Now For The Action….”

Michael Barnett, chief executive of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce, was commenting on today’s Premier House talks between Ministers and Auckland Mayors.

For the past few years, Government has been preparing the platform to move Auckland forward.

“As much as today’s ‘useful dialogue’ is long overdue, we can’t keep on endlessly preparing to be ready to fix Auckland’s problems.”

What Auckland is looking for is a water-tight action plan to solve its basic infrastructure problems, especially transport.

“For years Aucklanders have called for the region’s transport plans to be implemented. We are running 15 years behind Australian cities to get a completed basic motorway network, and bus and train services that are affordable, frequent and run on time,” said Mr Barnett.

At the very least, the action point arising from today’s meeting of Ministers and Mayors should be resolution to turn from talking about solving Auckland’s problems to actioning real solutions that make a visible improvement.
