Review of Unit Titles Act has commenced
After a process of research, workshops, meetings and lobbying by the Auckland Regional Council and the Auckland Regional Growth Forum, the government this week announced that a review of the Unit Titles Act has commenced.
The ARC and the Growth Forum, along with significant support from apartment owners, body corporate secretaries, and the wider development industry, led an initiative to modernise the legislation that controls the management and maintenance of unit titled property.
At its meeting on the 19th November the Growth Forum noted that while the review announcement is very welcome news, much work remains to be done.
“I’m sure that the approximately 40,000 residents of unit titled properties join us in welcoming this review. I am absolutely delighted that this review has been initiated” said Gwen Bull, Chair of the Auckland Regional Growth Forum.
She added that “Reviewing legislation and passing it into law is a lengthy process which, for this statute, has only just begun. For many residents affected by this issue however, addressing the deficiencies in the existing legislation cannot come soon enough.”
The Growth Forum passed a resolution to further investigate the needs of residents of higher density housing, signalling their intention to address any issues that may arise in a comprehensive manner.
