Manukau's Proposed Rates Increase Within Inflation

MANUKAU'S PROPOSED RATES INCREASE WITHIN THE RATE OF INFLATION
Last night Manukau City Council adopted its draft Annual Plan for 2004/07.
The draft plan proposes a rates increase for next year of 2.1% which is within the rate of inflation.
Key issues in the draft Plan include:
" a proposal to introduce development contributions to help meet the costs associated with growth
" provision for replacing the library at Clendon
" funding for a new aquatic centre at Mountfort Park, Manurewa
" not to proceed with the pay and display car parking trial.
City Manager Colin Dale is pleased with the proposed Plan, "Not only does it reflect the ongoing development of a clean, safe and smart city, but it takes advantage of the recent price reduction announcement from Watercare Services Ltd for water and wastewater charges. It was decided that the benefits will be used to keep charges down for the next year.
"I would also like to acknowledge the hard work of both councillors and staff in achieving this excellent result," says Mr Dale.
The draft Plan is now open for submissions until 10 May 2004. A summary of the key points will be circulated to all Manukau homes after Easter.
