Devonport roads upgraded by council

North Shore City Council is spending $634,000 upgrading Victoria and Albert roads in Devonport, between Lake and Calliope roads.

The work, which includes strengthening the road and making it smoother, and replacing the footpath, kerb and channel and vehicle crossings, is part of an annual $3.4m citywide programme.

Work began earlier this month on the Devonport project and is expected to be completed in June. During the process there will be some restrictions to parking on the road and access to vehicle crossings, driveways and footpaths.

North Shore City works and environment committee chairperson, Joel Cayford, says it would be best for people to try and use alternative routes to Devonport.

"There will be limited access to the footpaths and traffic will be slower than usual because of construction. For safety reasons the speed limit has been reduced to 30kph."

The project will enhance the safety and look of the road, as well as extend its lifespan. Joel Cayford says that as a result of community consultation, asphalt will be used instead of concrete for vehicle crossings, and bluestone for the kerbs.

"We're using rough-surfaced bluestone blocks as they're more in keeping with the heritage area than the existing concrete kerbs."
