Models sought for Cult-Couture Fashion Awards

Models sought for Cult-Couture Fashion Awards

Manukau City Council is looking for models for the Villa Maria Cult-Couture awards, a choreographed pageant showcasing talented designers. The awards cover such categories as the 'Recycled Revolution', 'On the Streets', and 'Matrimonial Bliss'.

Casting is being held on Friday 20th August from 6pm - 8pm and Saturday 21 August from 10am - 12noon, at Nathan Homestead, 70 Hill Road, Manurewa.

Awards organiser, Leisa Siteine says, "We are looking for people from all ethnic backgrounds, including European, Maori, Pacific Island and Asian, and both males and females. Garments, ranging from the traditional to the surreal to the outrageous, have been designed for females size 10 to 14 and men sized 81 - 86 waist.

"We're asking the models to donate their time for free, but we will be offering them a couple of professional photographs to begin or add to a portfolio. It will be a fantastic opportunity for anyone wanting to enter this field as a career to see what it is like. Or you could be someone that has always wanted to just have a go at modelling on a catwalk."

This year a dance choreographer will co-ordinate the models routines for their performance on the catwalk. Successful applicants will have a month to practice 'strutting their stuff' before the Awards night on 1 October.

"The garments they will be wearing will not be your typical high fashion garments. We're anticipating some crazy designs which will make it even more exciting for the models," says Ms Siteine.

"Models from the 2003 event gained valuable catwalk experience by being involved in an event of this kind. For most of them, being exposed to an audience of 700 and wearing 'wearable art' garments was a first time experience. One of the models was chosen by the director of Nova, who directed the casting last year, to join her agency and is now in popular demand as a model".

The Awards are organised by Manukau City Council and arts collective Toi O Manukau in partnership with Enterprising Manukau and sponsored by The Villa Maria Estate.
