New Commercial Relationship Whitford Quarry

Mayor Sir Barry Curtis announced today that the Manukau City Council is to enter into a management agreement with Fulton Hogan for the operation of the Whitford Quarry.

"A relationship with a major national operator is an excellent opportunity for the Council" Sir Barry said. "Fulton Hogan's size and expertise will allow the Council to get the maximum return for ratepayers while ensuring the best environmental management" he said.

"The Council is also pleased to announce that it is to place a covenant over the native bush in the Claude Stream catchment protecting it from future quarrying" Sir Barry said. "This is a beautiful area with many established native trees including some mature Kauri. Protecting it from future development is seen as a key part of the quarry decision."

"After an in-depth due diligence process Fulton Hogan was considered the best option for Whitford Quarry moving into the future. Fulton Hogan is a leader in the quarry industry in NZ and we believe their expertise and experience in quarrying, landfilling, consenting, and their focus on developing close community relationships means they will be the best partner for the Council" Sir Barry said.

The key features of the arrangement with Fulton Hogan are:

" Council to retain ownership of the land.

" Council to retain ownership of the rock.

" Fulton Hogan to seek consents.

" Consents to be considered by independent commissioner.

" Quarry to be operated by Fulton Hogan.

" Fulton Hogan to market rock.

" Close relationships to be maintained with community by Fulton Hogan.

" Staff of present operator to be offered employment with Fulton Hogan.
