New candidates’ info evening
Wondered about standing as a candidate for Greater Wellington Regional Council but unsure what being a regional councillor might involve?
Greater Wellington is holding a meeting for prospective candidates on Thursday, 12 August. Local government elections are being held in October and candidates must enrol by 20 August.
Electoral Officer Wayne Hastie says, “The evening will cover the role of Greater Wellington, how the committee process works, enrolling as a candidate and the elections.”
He encourages anyone interested in becoming a candidate to attend to help them decide if they would suit being a regional councillor.
“It’s important for democratic processes to have a number of candidates standing so that electors have a choice.”
The information evening will also provide an insight into what life as a councillor is like and includes a chance for prospective candidates to ask questions.
The meeting will be in the Regional Council Centre, 142 Wakefield Street, Wellington, level 5, 7:30 – 8:30pm on Thursday, 12 August. Candidate enrolment packs are available from Greater Wellington or on the website www.gw.govt.nz.
