Events in Manukau Libraries for Library Week

Events in Manukau Libraries for Library Week

AN EPIC CHALLENGE!

As part of New Zealand Library Week, August 9th-15th, Manukau Libraries are taking part in the great Epic Challenge. You can be in to win a laptop, as well as some great local prizes. The EPIC Challenge runs until August 29th. To enter, just complete the online quiz at www.epic.org.nz/challenge.

The Library Week theme this year is Libraries Aoteaora: your Window to the Wide World. A key message from Manukau Libraries is that EPIC electronic resources are now available on-line, and that Manukau library members can access them from any PC - at home, at work, or in the library.

This year Manukau Libraries joined with more than one hundred other New Zealand libraries to purchase access to a range of EBSCO and Gale international electronic databases. These databases contain the text of thousands of New Zealand and overseas journals, newspapers and magazines.

Did you know you can read articles from popular magazines like the Metro, or Time on-line for free? Whether your passion is food, computing, automotive, business, music, sports, or health, there are journals and magazines to cover these topics and many, many more.

As part of Library Week, Manukau Libraries will also participate in a national mass reading of Ngareta Gabel's popular children's book Oh Hogwash, Sweet Pea! Wendy Petrie, TV1 news presenter and former Manurewa High School student, will read the story at Manurewa Library at 10.30am on Tuesday 10 August. At the same time Pakuranga Kindergarten will present a large artwork based on the book to Pakuranga Library, and share in the reading.

If you need help on how to use Manukau Libraries electronic resources contact your local library. If you would like to find out more about Manukau Libraries visit www.manukau-libraries.govt.nz.
