Papatoetoe residents asked to be patient while Town Centre is upgraded
Manukau City Council is asking residents to be patient while upgrading of the 'Old Papatoetoe' Town Centre is carried out.
Chris Freke, Council's Manager of Transportation, says "We are aware that traffic delays are being experienced in the St George Street, Station Road area. This is partly a result of traffic signal detector loops not working due to the present construction activities. These detectors tell the signals what traffic flows are approaching and cause the lights to change.
"The situation should improve once these loops are reinstated and motorists get used to the new road layout."
Council acknowledges the removal of one of the through lanes into Station Road has created problems for traffic turning right out of Rangitoto Road. This will be monitored once the traffic signals are fully operation. Some of the road markings may need to be changed if the problem persists.
"This exciting revitalisation of the 'Old Papatoetoe Town Centre' and Hunters Corner Shopping Centre is taking place after extensive community consultation. It is estimated that the work will be completed by mid September, weather depending," says Mr Freke.
