Commissioners’ time extension okay
''This is okay news,'' Auckland City Mayor Hon John Banks said today in response to the commissioners offering the applicants, IMG and Auckland City, the opportunity to provide more detailed information about the proposed V8 Supercar street race.
“This is not unexpected given the widespread interest and huge support for the event. We accept there is more work to be done and we are quietly confident we can satisfy the outstanding issues.
“We are happy to continue working with Transit and the other key stakeholders. To get this great international event for Auckland we’ll do all we need to do. I am pleased the event owners remain strongly committed to this.
“Auckland City officials are ready, willing and able to meet other officials anywhere anytime and to undertake the heavy workload that is needed. The loops are tight and the hurdles are high but with a lot of goodwill we can get there.”
Mr Banks said to use the V8 parlance, he is looking forward to the chequered flag.
