Manukau Secondary School Students Strut Their Stuff

A future New Zealand Idol contestant could well be on show on Saturday 4 September at the Manukau Secondary School Performing Arts Awards, at the Panasonic Performing Arts Centre at Botany Secondary College, Manukau.

Supported by Manukau City Council and hosted by Botany Secondary College, the awards promote both classic and contemporary music and dance in individual and group categories.

Organiser Leisa Siteine, from Council’s Arts’ Community Outreach Services says, “We all know there is a huge amount of untapped talent here in Manukau. This event gives our young a goal to work towards and the opportunity to showcase their talents as they compete with the best from the city.”

Drawn from the 240 students who competed in the heats in August, the finalists will be competing for $4000 in prize money. The overall winning school will be presented with a trophy.

Mrs Siteine says, “Special thanks must go to all the tutors who assisted the students in their preparation. We are also extremely grateful to the Botany Secondary College for the use of their superb new state-of-the-art Panasonic Performing Arts Centre, which opened in 2003.
