Campaign Hits the Wall

He's young, he's independent, he's full of energy, and Auckland City Council Hobson ward candidate Shaun Gamble is bringing a spark of creativity to his election campaign.

Shaun, a first-time candidate who wants to bring some fresh ideas to local government, is using images projected on High Street building walls at night to promote his campaign.

Residents and bar and restaurant patrons can watch the images on the “beam wall” of Argus House, as they stroll down High Street on Friday and Saturday night from 7pm.

"I don't have a big campaign budget like a lot of candidates, just lots of passion and creativity," Shaun says.

"I wanted to do something different from the usual billboards and newspaper ads."

Shaun and his small group of dedicated supporters have also added a twist to the old door knocking theme handing out flyers to those at bars, cafes and bus stops around the city.

Shaun has also taken his campaign online, setting up the website www.shaungamble.co.nz, where voters can find more about Shaun's policies.

Shaun, who was raised and educated in Auckland, already has plenty of experience in local government as a professional city planner. As well as professional expertise, he brings a wealth of ideas and experience from living in cities in Denmark, England and the US.

At 36, he is one of the youngest candidates in the election, and one of the few independents.

Shaun lives in an inner-city heritage apartment, and will bring some much-needed focus on the issues facing the growing resident population of Auckland's CBD.

"Inner city residents have been neglected in the past, and developers have been given free reign to build sub-standard apartment blocks," Shaun says.

"Residents from the wider Auckland region should be able to come to the CBD and be proud of our world-class architecture and urban design, vibrant city centre, and great public transport."

Look out for Shaun and his supporters walking the streets of the Hobson ward in their "Vote Gamble" T-shirts as they are eager to stop and chat.

"I'm an underdog, but I'll be campaigning hard for a seat on this council," Shaun says.
