Fanshawe Street bus priority measures approved

Tuesday 30 November 2004

Auckland's Fanshawe Street bus priority measures approved

Bus priority measures along Fanshawe Street, in central Auckland, have been approved by Transfund New Zealand.

The Board has approved $6.38 for the $12.03 million project. The rest of the funding will be met by Auckland City Council and a grant from Infrastructure Auckland.

The funding means work can begin on widening Fanshawe Street to enable bus lanes in both directions to be built between the motorway on and off ramps at Beaumont Street and Nelson Street.

It will also allow for bus bays to be constructed at bus stops along the route and for improved pedestrian crossing facilities.

Transfund chair Dr Jan Wright says the project provides valuable links between the Northern Busway and the Britomart Transport interchange project. This approval will improve the provision of bus priority lanes from the North Shore through to Auckland's central business district.

"Fanshawe Street provides a major link for traffic travelling between the North Shore and central Auckland.

This project will greatly enhance the efficiency of bus services between these two popular destinations", she says.
