Night riders learn cycle safety tips
An annual bike riding event designed especially for children will be held at Western Springs next Thursday evening.
Claire Dixon, road safety co-ordinator for Auckland City, says this is a family event, where children can go on a bike ride, enjoy free entertainment and have their bikes and helmets safety checked.
“Auckland City is committed to promoting cycle safety, this event is especially for children and aims to teach them about cycle safety while having fun,” says Ms Dixon.
There are supervised bike rides for three age groups: 0-5 years old – with Fairy Clare 6-9 years old – with Jiggles the clown 10+ years old – two police officers (with volunteers) will take children on a bike ride along the north-western cycleway.
Part of National Bikewise Week, the kids bike ride evening follows the Bike to Work Breakfast held on Wednesday, 16 February. Both events aim to encourage cycling in the city as an alternative means of transport, whether to school, work or for leisure.
