Otara passionate about future within Tomorrow's Manukau-Manukau Apopo

The latest round of Tomorrow's Manukau consultation took place in Otara last week and resulted in a number of far reaching ideas.

Identified as key to Otara's ongoing development was:

· Economic growth and sustainability
· Celebration of diverse cultures
· Life long learning
· Community infrastructure

"Otara is very clear on the priorities that need to be achieved for the good of their community and the city as a whole", said Stella Ford, Council's manager of Strategic Policy and Advocacy. "There was no mistaking the passion for the beliefs held by this group".

"As a consultation exercise we are reliant on the community speaking to us openly and honestly about what they see as important. It is a bonus when we see the level of excitement and thought that was evident at the Otara meeting.

Tomorrow's Manukau is about the Council, government and other agencies working within Manukau to remove as many obstacles as possible for these communities to help themselves.

"Every community has different demands and issues, this exercise will allow us to identify and prioritise them", says Ms Ford.
