The scenic Akatarawa Road linking Upper Hutt to Waikanae and the Kapiti Coast is re-opening at 5pm today Friday 29 April for the first time in four months.
Access to Staglands Wildlife Reserve and Moss Green Gardens has been available from Upper Hutt throughout the closure, but visitors can now again make a circular trip , Wellington – Upper Hutt – Kapiti – Wellington.
The repair work has cost $1.5 million after the the January floods removed over 80 metres two lane Road.
Upper Hutt City Promotion Manager Paul Lambert says he is pleased that this very scenic route is now available again for local residents and tourists to use.
