Parnell: Parking time & fee choice trial launched
Parking time and fee choice trial launched in
Parnell
Parnell is to benefit from a new, flexible pay and display parking scheme trial, the council’s Transport and Urban Linkages Committee agreed yesterday. The trial will see existing pay and display meters reprogrammed to let people choose a parking time and fee to suit.
The fees for the parking trial will be $2 for the first hour, $3 for the second hour, $4 for the third hour and $5 for each additional hour. For example, choosing to park for three hours would cost $9.
The committee selected Parnell for the trial as it is a mixed residential and commercial suburb.
“Parnell attracts a wide audience including residents, businesses and tourists who all demand variety when parking,” says Councillor Richard Simpson, chairperson, Transport and Urban Linkages Committee.
“We are looking at innovative ways to manage the ever increasing demand on the city’s parking.”
Parnell Mainstreet support the three month trial, starting Wednesday, 1 June.
The trial will be evaluated on feedback from Parnell Mainstreet and parking surveys undertaken throughout the trial period.
