Become More Informed About Your Community
Highland Park Community House is pleased to announce a free seminar will be held by Wai Care, Council's environmental programme for the protection of our waterways, on Wednesday 1 June. It is part of the new programme 'These are the people in our neighbourhood', introduced by community house co-ordinator, Sandy Ryan.
She says, "This free seminar arose out of my own curiosity over some of the services I was not even that aware of myself, like Wai Care, which works to keep our waterways clean and safe. Part of my role, requires me to know what goes on around me and what services are available, so I can keep people informed through the programmes we run.
"I understand that the Manukau Wai Care programme is just beginning to hold seminars and most of their work to date has been in schools. The resources available will be in other languages catering for our diverse community."
Wai Care is a community action programme to improve our streams. It does this by providing co-ordinators to guide and train community groups to learn about waterways; monitor waterway conditions; and take practical action to improve waterway health. It also provides information monitoring equipment, a website resource, www.waicare.org.nz and holds events and activities to link groups.
More information and contact numbers for all the Community Houses can be found on Council's website www.manukau.govt.nz or phone Council's Call Centre 262 5104
