Transit signs contract for SH20 Mt Roskill extension project
Transit New Zealand and contractors Fulton Hogan today signed a contract for the construction of the $168.9M Mt Roskill Extension of State Highway 20.
Transit, Fulton Hogan and representatives of consultants Opus International (construction supervisors), were joined at the Frost Road construction site for the contract signing, by Hon. Phil Goff, MP for Mt Roskill. Preliminary enabling works are already underway to collect geotechnical information and construction proper will begin in September with completion scheduled in 2009/10.
"The Mt Roskill extension is a key part of the strategic Western Ring Route, which will relieve congestion and provide an alternative route to SH1," explains Transit Regional Manager Richard Hancy.
"Delivering a four kilometre-long extension of the SH20 motorway from Hillsborough to Richardson Road, the project also includes provision for a bus lane and enabling works for a future rail line. A number of bridges will provide routes for pedestrians and cyclists," concluded Mr Hancy.
Residents and stakeholders will be kept informed of progress for the duration of the project. As part of this, an Information Centre will be set up to show ongoing progress and an 0800 number will also provide information about the project.
