Meeting on Milford to Takapuna cycle route
Community meeting on proposed Milford to Takapuna cycle route
July 15, 2005
A public meeting about the proposed Milford to Takapuna on-road cycle route will be held at the Takapuna War Memorial Hall, 5-7 The Strand, on Tuesday, July 26 at 7pm.
The meeting has been
organised by North Shore City Council as part of an extended
community consultation process for the Milford to Takapuna
on-road cycleway. An independent facilitator will chair the
meeting.
North Shore City's transport development
manager, Kit O'Halloran, says the meeting is an opportunity
for community discussion about the cycle route proposal.
"It's a chance for us to explain the proposal, and
for members of the community to share their views and ask
questions."
The Milford to Takapuna cycle route
arises from North Shore City's Strategic Cycle Plan, which
was adopted in 2003. It is aligned with the New Zealand
Transport Strategy (2002) and the regional cycling strategy.
North Shore City's strategy aims to provide a
safe, convenient and enjoyable cycling environment that
meets the needs of cyclists. The council encourages cycling,
both as a mode of transport and as a means of recreation.
