Final stage of shoreline sewer repairs underway

North Shore City Council has begun the final stage of repair work to the main trunk sewer along the foreshore between Mairangi Bay and Campbells Bay. Council wastewater network projects manager, Dave Woods says the work will ensure the pipeline is structurally sound and is protected against damage from wave action.

The sewer will be strengthened with steel fibre concrete and blended into the cliff face, he says. The work has to be done around low tide, with 10 to 20 metre sections being worked on at a time to minimise the disruption to beach users.

To ensure public safety, barriers and signs will guide walkers around sections of the sewer undergoing repairs, Mr Woods says.

The grassed area at the end of the Esplanade, Campbells Bay, will be used for access and the contractor's work site and an access ramp will be built down onto Campbells Bay. The area will be reinstated once the project is completed.
