Station Road closes for better traffic flow at Paremata
Transit New Zealand wishes to advise motorists that the Paremata roundabout end of Station Road at Paremata will be closed permanently on Wednesday 7 September 2005. It will become a "No exit" street but can still be used to access Paremata school.
With the closure of Station Road, the new mini roundabout on SH58 will be opened to traffic and Paremata Crescent will become a two-way road rather than a one-way.
Transit project manager Geoff Griffiths said that motorists wanting to travel on Station Road will now need to use the new mini roundabout on SH58.
"The closure of Station Road will allow motorists travelling from Papakowhai to merge more easily and safely at the Paremata roundabout," he said.
"The SH58 roundabout will help to control traffic travelling to and from the Paremata roundabout. It will also help to alleviate some of the congestion problems by taking southbound traffic from Whitby off the Paremata roundabout and connecting it to the new southbound slip lane," Mr Griffiths said.
The closure of Station Road is part of the overall SH1 Plimmerton to Paremata project which is aimed at improving traffic flow by helping to ease the serious peak-hour congestion caused by vehicles having to merge at the Paremata roundabout and Plimmerton Weigh Station.
