Leaky building working party established

Auckland City has set up a working party of elected representatives who will work with council officers on leaky building issues.

The working party will be made up of Councillors Vern Walsh, Bruce Hucker, Doug Armstrong and Richard Northey.

Councillor Vern Walsh, chairperson of the Finance and Corporate Business Committee that resolved to establish the group at its meeting yesterday, says the working party and council officers will work together to ensure the leaky building issue is dealt with in a constructive way.

“Elected representatives and officers have always worked closely together on the leaky building issue. Establishing the working party will formalise this arrangement and provide officers with a political feedback point,” says Mr Walsh.

Mr Walsh said the working party and officers will continue to work with the Department of Building and Housing.

“It is important we have a constructive relationship with central government where we work together to achieve the best outcome for both leaky building homeowners and Auckland City ratepayers.

“The working party will work with officers to look at ways Auckland City can help to achieve quicker resolution for affected homeowners,” Mr Walsh says.
