Website Launch for Porirua Elements Festival
The Porirua City Festival of the Elements, held every year on Waitangi Day, has launched its own website at www.elementsfestival.co.nz
It’s the first time the Festival, one of the biggest Waitangi Day events in New Zealand, has had its own website. It will be progressively updated to feature all the latest information and developments for the 2006 Festival.
The Festival of the Elements, organised by the Porirua Community Arts Council, uses the Arts to celebrate New Zealand’s cultural diversity, made possible by the Treaty of Waitangi.
Festival coordinator Margaret Armour says that last summer 25 thousand people attended, and more than one thousand performers and artists took part.
“The Festival began over a decade ago as a local event, but it’s widened out tremendously, and now attracts artists, performers and crowds from throughout the wider Wellington region.” Ms Armour says.
“Our visitor survey last February showed that 40 percent of the crowd - about 10 thousand people – came from outside of Porirua City.”
Ms Armour says planning is well underway for the 2006 Festival, with headline acts currently being finalised.
Organisations, groups, artists and performers interested in taking part should contact Ms Armour on (04) 2338436 or Em: armour@xtra.co.nz
