Safety improvements to be made to airport motorway
Transit New Zealand is beginning safety improvements to a two kilometre section of SH20A George Bolt Memorial Drive, south of Kirkbride Road.
A wire-rope median barrier is being installed to provide a safer travel environment for motorists and to lower the risk of cross median accidents in the area.
Work, scheduled until February 2006, will begin on Sunday 16 October and will take place overnight from 9pm until 5am where the two lanes (airport and citybound) will be reduced to one lane in each direction.
"As this stretch of road serves as the main access and departure route for Auckland International Airport, it is important to make safety a high priority in the area," says Transit New Zealand Regional Manager, Richard Hancy.
During the work, motorists are asked to reduce speed, drive with caution and expect possible delays overnight.
