Youthful Protest Over Wgtn Land Sale
11 year old Wellington boy Sean Clark will be speaking to tonight's Wellington CIty Council 5.30 p.m. meeting to urge that public coastal park land at Owhiro Bay should not be sold off for private housing development.
Sean has been part of the Southern Environmental Association protest at the land for the past 5 Sunday afternoons.
The meeting tonight will reconsider the controversial staff proposal to sell off public coastal land on Wellington's South Coast at Owhiro Bay for private housing development.
Meanwhile concern has been raised that the public was incorrectly advised by the Mayor's office as recently as last night that the proposed sale had been consulted on as part of the South Coast Management Plan process in 2001, something which is completely untrue, says the SEA.
Information just released by the Council under the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act raises several issues regarding the sale proposal.
Last week a large meeting of the Owhiro Bay Residents' Association voted for the land to be retained.
