Council acts on soil results from second pre-school centre
Interim results of soil tests at the Barnardos Early Learning Centre, Freeman's Bay, have indicated the presence of a range of contaminants similar to those found at the nearby Auckland Central Playcentre, Auckland City said today.
The council has taken immediate steps to cover all exposed areas with protective matting and is assisting in providing parents and caregivers with preliminary information. A full remediation programme will be undertaken removing the top half metre of contaminated soil from the site.
An early private meeting with parents is being arranged and will be addressed by medical and environmental specialists.
Test results will be explained to parents and staff at the meeting, which will be chaired by the Deputy Mayor, Councillor Dr Bruce Hucker.
