Downtown Community Ministry Bulletin

Downtown Community Ministry Bulletin

'We need your books for the Bookfair' is the call going out from the folk at Downtown Community Ministry.

Next week DCM starts book collections in Wellington central and surrounding suburbs for the annual Bookfair.

"It's simple really, box up your books and give us a call," says Bookfair Coordinator David Cross.

"Wellingtonians are really supportive of the Bookfair. Year after year people save up their books and call us to come and take them away."

Wheeli bins will also be placed at many Churches, Community Centres and CABs around the city so people can drop off their books locally. A list of these locations is available on DCM's website at www.dcm.org.nz

"If people aren't inspired by the thought of clearing a bit of space in their house, they might be happy to know that their book donations contribute to a great cause."

The Bookfair raises important funds for DCM's work with Wellington's most vulnerable people. DCM supports and advocates primarily for those with backgrounds of homelessness. It carries out projects to address the underlying causes of poverty, indebtedness and social exclusion.

Apart from books, DCM will also take CDs, DVDs and vinyl records.

Now in its 11th year, the Bookfair attracts thousands of people over its 2 day sale at the Events Centre on Queens Wharf. And, given that it is not on until September, Mr Cross thinks he has plenty of time to gather in the 60 000 plus books required.
