Waihi Beach now better connected to New Zealand through InterCity Coachlines

– special introductory $10 fare from Waihi Beach to Tauranga –

InterCity Coachlines has launched an introductory $10 fare to celebrate the launch of its new Waihi service.

The new service follows extensive consultation with the local regional and district councils, plus the Waihi Beach community board. As a result, InterCity Group has successfully incorporated a Waihi Beach stop on its services between Auckland and Tauranga.

InterCity services will start from Monday 19 June, and connections will include Waihi Beach, Waihi, Katikati, Tauranga, Thames, Whangamata, Hamilton, Bombay, Rotorua, Whakatane and Auckland (including the domestic and international airports).

InterCity Group sales &marketing manager Daniel Rode, says this new service will provide Waihi with a regular and reliable transport system to New Zealand towns and cities.

“Thirty one InterCity services per week will now run via Waihi Beach providing residents with scheduled transport on modern, well-equipped and air conditioned coaches.

“The new InterCity services will help to boost local tourism by providing vital public transport access to the area for visiting tourists.

“Currently InterCity Group carries approximately 80,000 passengers into the area each year. This includes 20,000 international visitors which equates to about 30,000 bed nights for the area annually,” said Mr Rode.

InterCity Coachlines carries 1.2 million passengers each year and operates 130 daily services to 650 cities and towns throughout New Zealand

Scheduled InterCity connections will provide daily morning and afternoon services heading Northbound from Tauranga departing from Waihi beach at 8.50am and 2.20pm, plus an additional late service on Friday and Sunday departing at 6.45pm. Going Southbound from Auckland, there will be a daily morning and afternoon service departing Waihi Beach at 10.25am and 4.20pm plus an additional late service on Friday departing at 9.05pm.

The above services will be on a trial basis until the end of August, and then adjusted according to suit patterns in community demand.

To launch the new InterCity Waihi Beach Service there is a limited special introductory fare of $10 from Waihi Beach to Tauranga (point to point travel only) on offer until 16 July 2006.

The normal fare structure for departures from Waihi Beach is priced at $17 to Tauranga, $10 to Waihi or Katikati and $32 to Auckland.
