Active in the City

Active in the City

Downtown Community Ministry will continue its commitment to those in the inner city when it moves to Compassion House in Lukes Lane next week.

The new premises are in the heart of Wellington and allow DCM to carry on being active in the city.

For over 30 years DCM has assisted Wellingtonians requiring basic help with housing, food and benefit advocacy. A high proportion of clients have long backgrounds with homelessness and many have alcohol, drug or gambling addictions.

DCM Director Stephanie McIntyre says, "The new premises are in a perfect location and keeps us right on the doorstep of this key group of people."

It is hoped that the new location will mean a long term residence for DCM. The Compassion House location is owned by The Sisters of Compassion Trust and is being tenanted by groups like DCM with a strong community focus.

"Our appreciation goes to Rev Lynne Frith and the staff at Wesley Wellington Parish for accommodating us over the last 12 months. We have been well looked after and will miss their hospitality."

DCM's mailing and phone information will remain the same.
