Home-grown movie to spark discussion and debate at youth workshop
From Boys 2 Men, a movie produced by James Cook High School students in association with One Pacific Productions, is being used as an educational resource at a community workshop being held in Clendon next week.
Coordinator of the workshop, Deidre Otene from CAYAD, says the movie was chosen because it addresses themes such as gangs, drugs, violence, education and leadership. It also highlights the importance of families/fanau/whanau in the community.
“It’s about young people getting together to discuss the issues that effect them”, says Ms Otene.
The day starts with the screening of the film, followed by group discussion on the themes covered in the movie.
”From Boys 2 Men provides a wonderful commentary of the day to day environment of youth in Clendon. Whether they identify with the positive or negative aspects of the movie, it is sure to provide great discussion points for our workshop”, says Ms Otene.
At the end of the workshop the students will be joined by their families where they will present their findings and discuss how they can all work together to bring about change in their community.
