Congratulations to Smoke-Free Families
Press Statement 22nd November 2006
Congratulations to Smoke-Free Families
Otara’s Manukau City Councillor, Su’a William Sio is applauding the result of a survey by the Ministry of Health which reveals that nine out of 10 homes with children are smoke free.
“This is an excellent result of work by the Ministry of Health (through the Health Sponsorship Council), and an even better result for all young children and their families,” says Councillor Sio. “Far too many of our young people are picking up this unhealthy & expensive habit at a very young age because of the bad example being set in the home by adult smokers,” he says.
“Parents who smoke by and large are forced to maintain an expensive habit and this is money that can better be used for the benefit of their children and for the rest of the family.”
