Overwhelming Support for Airport Petition
Overwhelming Support for Airport Petition
The Paraparaumu Airport Coalition says the initial response to its Airport Petition shows that at least 75 per cent of the public support it.
The Petition calls on Parliament to pass the Airport Authorities Amendment Bill unaltered.
It also aims to get justice for the original Maori and Pakeha landowners – and to defeat plans to remove the East/West alternate runway from its present site.
Cr Alan Tristram, convenor of the Coalition, says coalition members gathering signatures in public places over the past two days have been getting favourable responses from at least three out four people approached.
He says this give the lie to claims by the owner, Aucklander Noel Robinson, that he has 99 per cent support for his development plans for the Airport.
Cr Tristram says Coalition members will be out with Petition forms at Coastlands today and at Coastlands and the Paraparaumu beach market tomorrow.
