C. Ash Rash: A Bio Of Sorts

C. Ash Rash: A Bio Of Sorts

Featuring Tolo Mirnonoff and Scott Nicholson.

What does aural sexuality, throbbing rigour sound like? It sounds likepunk-rave –theatre-clash quartet Charlie ASH!

Lil over 3 years ago Charlie ASH burst from rehearsal space to lead the stampede of bands that reinvented the Wellington gig scene.

Three years on, a bustling host of sneaker-pimping design kids, scrotum strangling stovepipe types and adamant old-skool C.ASH groupies dance to Mailee Mathews’ phat basslines, Dave Prendergasts’ gat-hooks, Mathew Brightwells’ driving drums and sing Rosie Riggirs’ infectious lyrics in self-promoting retaliation. New Zealand is very much in sick, avid lust with the Charlie ASH and their incredible onstage antics.

Charlie ASH absolutely influenced."- Tolo Mirnonoff 'Pretty and Vapid Magazine.'

C.ASH's gaudy string of achievements is Wellington's most impressive, "Charlie ASH was the first band to wear ISH costumes on stage, we held Electrosexual, which grew into the party monster that was Neon Nites, we made an award winning musical (BOX), our video for O'baby, (directed by Sally Tran (ISH)), won the DIY Music Video Competition Handle The Jandal (overall and best concept '06) we played with ChicksOnSpeed… AND we have worn over 45 different costumes in 2 years!"- Rosie Riggir.

Feb 26th heralds the official release of debut EP CAN. CAN.

"CAN. CAN.' kicks off with a hiss and a roar with 'Ah-hA'. It's kinda Goldfrapp but a tad more sinister & raw. Ah-hA grooves along like a dynamic juggernaut with the Rosie vocal/ squeal a definite EP highlight. "…CAN, but you won't – cause you don't dance do you…?".

Next up 'O'Baby' with its trademark and thunderous bassline. It's a new take on the track and works a treat in the EP format. It's a wild song, with wild lyrics, and it shines alongside the other tracks.

'Blood Red Sleeve' at number 3 and it's an Electro-Rocker with angst and the vocal "… won't you come inside and meet the family…" has almost a scary tone to it. It demands attention and repeat listening, to feel the Charlie ASH 'Chainsaw Massacre' vibe.

Last up is 'Couldn't Couldn't' 70's Bowie-glam-vocal with a shredding guitar and punchy bassline. A truly stylish way to end a standout debut release.

CAN. CAN. is gonna be a main-stay on Lotion radio shows and on my DJ setlist for 2007. Look out if these tracks ever get the remix treatment cause it's gonna be massive in the club, as it has been on the gig stage…" – Scott Nicholson, On Air Producer – ‘Radio Active 89FM.’

If you haven't witnessed a Charlie ASH show you must!
