Council corrects housing cost figures
Auckland City Council acknowledges errors in previously published figures related to the high cost of housing in New Zealand compared to some Australian cities.
The initial report said that housing costs in New Zealand for small and large houses were on average 85 per cent and 91 per cent, respectively, higher than in Australia. These figures have been corrected to 60 per cent and 65 per cent.
"We regret the error but nevertheless, the amended figures still appear to illustrate a marked difference between the costs of building in New Zealand cities compared with Australian cities," said economic development group manager, Karen Lyons.
