Find out online about footpath upgrades
Aucklanders wanting to find out when their street’s footpaths will be upgraded can find out online by clicking on www.aucklandcity.govt.nz/auckland/transport/footpath
Auckland City Council’s website now includes information on which areas are scheduled for footpath upgrades over the next six months.
“Safe, attractive and long-lasting footpath surfaces are important. Footpaths connect communities and encourage people to get active in their neighbourhoods,” says Councillor Richard Simpson, chairperson of the council’s Transport and Urban Linkages Committee.
“Improving and maintaining the footpath network makes walking a more attractive option for getting around, particularly for shorter journeys.”
Areas scheduled for work over the next few months include Grey Lynn, Ponsonby, Westmere, Western Springs, Parnell, Remuera, Kohimarama, St Heliers, Mission Bay, Blockhouse Bay and Mt Roskill.
Work start and finish dates depend on the weather and the programme may change during the year.
The council owns 2214km of footpaths across the city, many of which were built at a time when design conditions and standards were not as high as they are today.
This financial year the council will invest $30 million to replace and repair footpaths that are in poor or very poor condition.
