The opening dates were announced by Vector Arena Chief Executive, Bruce Mactaggart, who also confirmed the sensational Rock Star Supernova band is already on sale and confirmed to play Vector Arena, Saturday, March 24th.

Bruce Mactaggart, said this is an exciting time as Vector Arena is, from today, able to confirm bookings for a range of international events.

“As the entertainment hub of the Pacific, Vector Arena changes the dynamic of bringing entertainment to Australia and New Zealand. That’s an exciting prospect for all New Zealanders,” he said.

With a seating capacity of over 12,000, the multi-purpose indoor arena, located in downtown Auckland is a state of the art venue for events ranging from rock concerts to classical performances, international sporting events such as netball, gymnastics, and, ice hockey as well as conferences and exhibitions.

Along with large-scale concerts and events, the arena can also operate as a lyric theatre or intimate concert venue by sectioning off the floor area to maintain intimacy, providing a perfect performance space for smaller audiences.

“That capability will set new standards for the type of events staged both in Auckland city and in this country,” says Mr Mactaggart. “Vector Arena has been designed to offer great depth and diversity of entertainment.”

With a state of the art kitchen and a superb grand atrium Vector Arena has 5 star hotel catering and banquet facilities available. From a small elegant cocktail party for 50 in Bistro Arena Balcony Suite to a sit down black tie dinner for 2000, Vector Arena is perfect for any function or corporate event. A full suite of hospitality options are available.

In addition to banquets and formal occasions during events, Bistro Arena will provide exceptional food and a full range of beverages seven days a week. With this capability the food and beverage outlets are able to provide a menu for all tastes - from popcorn and hotdogs, to sushi and champagne.

With stunning design, panoramic city views, and, internationally acclaimed Chef, Warwick Brown, at the helm, Bistro Arena is an enviable place to relax and dine even when events are not being staged in Vector Arena.

As naming rights sponsor, Vector is proud to be associated with this world class entertainment venue.

"This is a key piece of infrastructure - not only for the Auckland region but for New Zealand. This facility will contribute enormously to the arts, sport and business communities nationwide. We are confident it will be a source of great pride for us all," said Vector CEO Mark Franklin.

Vector owns and manages a range of energy and technology assets which touch more than a million New Zealand homes and businesses.

The development of Vector Arena is a key action from Auckland City’s CBD Into the Future strategy - a 10-year action plan to transform Auckland’s CBD into one of the world’s most vibrant and dynamic business and cultural centres. It also links with Auckland City’s events strategy, as a significant venue with the capacity, facilities and operational flexibility to support large community events, international sports and entertainment events.

The land owner, local Maori Iwi, Ngāti Whatuā o Orakei have worked in close collaboration with QPAM Ltd to ensure all artistic elements and architecture of the building pay tribute to the legacy left by their elders and the people of Ngāti Whatuā.

The symbolism of Celestial Lines in the entrance area pays homage to the skills of ancient navigators who charted constellation systems, ocean currents, wave trends and island locations while exploring the vastness of the South Pacific. Indoors, the beautiful columns are in essence the heartbeat, life support and soul of the Vector Arena.

Today Ngāti Whatuā o Orakei are, keen and integral supporters, of Vector Arena.

Located in the heart of Auckland city, alongside the heritage railway station building at Quay Park, Parnell, Vector Arena is within easy walking distance of Auckland’s CBD and all major public transport hubs; Britomart railway station & bus terminal and the downtown ferry terminal.

In support of Auckland City Council’s policy of encouraging people to come to the city centre by public transport, no general public parking is available on site. However, more than 7,000 car parks are located within 1.5km of Vector Arena and over 4,000 hotel beds within a short 2km radius

The official Vector Arena opening is scheduled for April 19th 2007. Further information on this ceremony and other exciting news, including a public open day, will be announced shortly.

Tickets for all Vector Arena events are available for purchase from Ticketmaster: www.ticketmaster.co.nz
