Support For Fluoridation
The Public Health Association fully supports the Far North District Council’s plans to fluoridate water in Kaitaia.
“The council is making the right decision and in terms of Maori health in the area, locals will only benefit,” Doctor Keating said today.
“If the consultation process with local hapu has been inadequate, the council must address this. But iwi, local government and the communities of the area must continue with plans to fluoridate.”
Dr Keating said that fluoride is extremely safe.
“Even with massive overdoses, the side effects are negligible. But the benefits of fluoridating water are enormous. It helps strengthen teeth, prevent decay, and results in better overall health for communities.”
