Hundreds of submissions received on proposed signs and billboards bylaws
Auckland City Council has received more than 1700 submissions on proposed new signs and billboards bylaws following a six-week consultation period.
A preliminary analysis shows that approximately 200 are in favour of the draft bylaws, while around 1500 express opposition to the proposals.
The chairperson of the Planning and Regulatory Committee, Councillor Glenda Fryer, is pleased so many people have participated in the consultation process.
"It's rewarding to get such a large number of submissions and I'm pleased there's such strong public interest in these bylaws which influence how our city looks and feels.
"Submitters have come forward with a wealth of ideas that will give the hearings panel a lot to consider as they deliberate on the proposed bylaws," Ms Fryer says.
The hearings panel will convene in April to consider the detail of the draft bylaws and all submissions made on the proposals. All submitters have been given the option of addressing the panel.
The panel will then make a recommendation on the bylaws to full council later in the year.
The panel members include: Councillors Glenda Fryer (chairperson), Faye Storer, Richard Northey, Graeme Mulholland and Penny Sefuiva, along with independent urban designer Garth Falconer. Auckland City Council is working to have all submissions available to view at www.aucklandcity.gotvt.nz/bylaws as soon as possible.
