A place for the dogs of Whitby

A place for the dogs of
Whitby
A call has been made for public submissions on
a dog obedience compound for Whitby.
Councillor Robert Shaw said a facility to exercise and train dogs in Whitby was most desirable.
"Unfortunately, the proposal was not included in the Council's draft budget that was issued last week".
Cr Shaw said he hoped that people would made submissions on the Draft Annual Plan and in particular that those in Whitby would support this project.
There is an under-utilised, mown grass Reserve area adjacent to the Montessori School in Albatross Close that would be ideal for this use.
The proposal is to fully fence the area which would be about 70 meters by 30 meters.
Galvanized pipe and chain link fencing to a height of 1.2 meters would be used with several gates.
A public concrete path would be installed along the eastern and northern sides of the fence.
Cr Shaw said the cost of the project was $28,000 with some expected on-going operating expenses.
"Assets of this kind are necessary in every suburb and it is one of Council's prime responsibilities to provide such facilities." They are a part of urban infrastructure he said.
