Len Lye To Light Up Auckland Art Fair 07 Sculpture Court

(Auckland, New Zealand) From mesmerizing kinetic works to cast iron creations, an exceptional line-up of artists from New Zealand and Australia will feature up to 20 sculptural works at the Auckland Art Fair Sculpture Court from 18 – 20 May.

The Sculpture Court, presented by Staples Rodway, will be exhibited in a large dedicated indoor space at the Marine Events Centre, and will be the first opportunity where some of these impressive works are unveiled to the public. Artists include: Chris Charteris, Konstantin Dimopoulos, Andrew Drummond, Fatu Feu’u, Brett Graham, Aiko Groot, Gregor Kregar, Callum Morton, Michael Parekowhai, Anton Parsons, Louise Purvis, Terry Stringer, Ngatai Taepa and Jeff Thomson.

As part of the Sculpture Court, Gow Langsford Gallery, in partnership with SKYCITY, will be exhibiting a stunning Len Lye sculpture entitled Fountain. While some of Len Lye’s works feature in other New Zealand cities, this will be a rare and unique opportunity to see his work in Auckland, and set amongst a leading group of artists with exquisite sculptures. Fountain consists of a number of stainless steel rods which move together from a motor at the base of its stand, creating a seemingly effortless movement and motion that only a Len Lye work could project.

Kate Darrow, curator of the Sculpture Court says, “Many of the works represent some of the best contemporary sculpture you are likely to see anywhere. I have tried to present a snapshot of some of the most interesting work currently being produced and to give the audience an insight into the wide scope of contemporary sculptural practice.”
