The Big Look-See II
The Big Look-See II
Sample Wellington 's Arts for
FREE
Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 June 2007
Roll up, roll up¡¬ for your chance to have a "look-see" behind the scenes of the theatres, galleries, museums, heritages sites and arts organisations that go into making the Wellington region, New Zealand's arts and cutural hub.
Yes folks, for two days only you can have a good old fashioned nosey around the region's favourite cultural hotspots with The Big Look-See number two¡¬ and the best part ¨C it's all for FREE!
With 28 participating organisations at 19 venues stretching from Wellington City, to Porirua and the Hutt Valley, there is something for everyone. From learning the ropes of bell ringing, to trying your hand at stage fighting. Take a peek at Te Papa press, join a guided walk and discover tales of Wellington, put on your dancing shoes in a beginner hip-hop class, frighten your friends with a prosthetic nose and scary stage make up. Kids can make their own music video or learn the tricks of the TV presenting trade. Watch snippets of live shows, have all your spider questions answered, be seduced by the melodrama of music hall, catch your shadow on paper or make a taniwha. You can find out how scenery flies or create your very own brooch. How about getting your heirloom family oil-painting valued or take a tour of artist's studios? If acting has always tickled your fancy, why not tread the boards in a physical characterisation class or a theatre marae workshop? Sharpen your dinner party wit with an improvisation class or enjoy a recital of the Maori concerto¡¬ all for FREE!
Don't look a gift horse in the mouth, get out there!
Over 7,110 people had a Big Look-See last year and with 2007 bigger and better we expect numbers to rise. There are no bookings required the majority of activities ¨C you can just show up!
One 2006 Big Look-See participant had this to say, "It was wonderful, so free, so accessible, my children has an absolute blast at the events we went to. Roll on the 2007 Big Look-See"
The Big Look-See is coordinated by Arts Wellington - a trust established to support arts and cultural audience development in the Greater Wellington Region. Its objective is to play a leading role in the on-going development of the flourishing arts, cultural and heritage sector and, in doing so, contribute directly to the social and economic well-being of individuals, arts organisations and of the Wellington Region.
