Action Hobson Welcomes Movement On Billboards Issue

Action Hobson councillors Christine Caughey and Richard Simpson are pleased that a revised billboards proposal is to be put forward by a panel of commissioners for the consideration of the full Auckland City Council next month.

“In February, after discussions with the Outdoor Advertising Association of New Zealand (OAANZ), it became obvious to us that the previous proposal was too extreme,” the councillors said. “We are pleased that the committee has also now reached the same conclusion and has developed a revised proposal for full council consideration. We will listen to the council debate and will study the proposal carefully before deciding whether or not to support it at the full council meeting next month.

“Too much energy has been expended on this issue to date but we are pleased to be making progress towards a workable outcome. Once this issue is behind us, the council will be able to focus on things of greater importance to the city’s visual urban environment such as the battle against graffiti,” the councillors said.
