Pest Control Companies Step In
Professional pest control companies say they will work with Environment Canterbury to provide services for the region in the wake of the collapse of the council-owned Target Pest Enterprises.
Pest Management Association of New Zealand president Frank Visser said that it was vital that pest management services be available in Canterbury and other regions where Target Pest Enterprises operated.
"We will be speaking to Environment Canterbury and working with them to meet pest control needs," he said.
"Good-quality pest control is vital for many of our export producers, as well as for businesses handling food and for householders."
Environment Canterbury announced today that it had appointed a receiver to administer the affairs of Target Pest Enterprises, which employs 280 people around the country.
Last year PMANZ raised concerns that plans by the State Owned Enterprise AgriQuality to buy a 45 per cent stake in Target Pest Management would create a conflict of interest. AgriQuality is responsible for much of the verification of treatment and production processes.
It was revealed today that AgriQuality has sold its minority shareholding in Target Pest Enterprises back to the council for a nominal sum.
