Stars of Auckland BarShow 07!
Speakers, Seminars, Parties & Comps confirmed
With the 2nd annual Auckland BarShow kicking off next month, the time has come to announce the dynamic line-up of both local and international speakers presenting a showcase of cutting edge seminars. Auckland BarShow, the number one event for the business of bars, is again expected to attract more than 3000 visitors with an enlarged show space, an incredible line-up of exhibitors, a jam-packed schedule of seminars, the NZ Bartender Magazine Bartender of the Year Competition sponsored by Bombay Sapphire and of course, the post show networking events including the New Zealand Bartender Magazine Bar Awards.
All seminars will take place on Tuesday, 17 July and Wednesday, 18 July at Alinghi Base overlooking the stunning Viaduct Harbour (pdf of complete timetable attached). This year there are three specialty theatres all dedicated to bar industry education including; ‘BAR MIXOLOGY THEATRE’, ‘BAR TALKS & BAR TASTINGS THEATRE’ and the ‘BAR TRAINING THEATRE’.
BARTENDER
MAGAZINE BAR MIXOLOGY THEATRE
Need to brush up on your
bartending skills? Or keen to learn more about the latest
bartending trends and techniques? Then the bar mixology
stage is the place for you. Spearheading the mixology
sessions and back by popular demand will be Bartender
Magazine’s Special International Guest Speaker direct from
London, Mr Angus Winchester. His sessions include: ‘The
Martini Academy’- an in-depth look at three ounces of gin;
‘Eat, Drink and Be Mary’- examining the Bloody Mary in
all her incarnations; and ‘Juleps Y’all’ - discussing
the world’s pre-eminent cocktail, the Mint Julep.
BAR TASTINGS & BAR TALKS THEATRE
This theatre offers
two diverse opportunities to learn. The ‘bar tastings’
are an opportunity to taste new and exciting drinks products
from a diverse range of drinks companies. Among other things
you can go on a Gin Journey with South Gin Club Treasurer
Jacob Briars or sample the Havana Club range of rums with
Pernod Ricard Brand Ambassador, Ben Davidson. The ‘bar
talks’ are all about education with industry leaders
discussing the pertinent issues affecting the bar industry.
Learn the nitty gritty details of opening a bar from a panel
of experts including David Hawk (Suite & Crow Bar,
Auckland), Christian McCabe (Matterhorn & Mighty Mighty,
Wellington) and Rob Ryan (Honey, Corner Bar & Deschlers,
Auckland) or get a grip on your music policy at a session
called ‘Music & Your Venue’ led by David Hawk (Suite &
Crow Bar, Auckland), Adan Tijerina (Matterhorn & Mighty
Mighty, Wellington) and Ashwin Sudhakar (Khuja Lounge,
Auckland).
BAR TRAINING THEATRE
For those bartenders
who are keen to sharpen their skills, we have included a
brand new initiative for this show with the Bar Training
Theatre. The sessions will be headed up by two of the bar
trade’s hardest working trainers each focusing on their
area of expertise; Flair workshops with international flair
superstar Mr Leeroy Petersen (of Twisted Liquid), and
Classic Bartender Training with Italian bartender and
trainer Marco Faraone, also three-time winner of the
Australian Bartender Magazine Bartender of the Year
Competition.
BARTENDER MAGAZINE BAR AWARDS 07
The
inaugural New Zealand Bar Awards was held in 2006 during
Auckland BarShow. The popular event attracted over 300
leading bar professionals who attended the gala dinner and
watched as 10 awards were handed out to the country’s
finest. Categories included ‘Bar of the Year’, ‘Wine
Bar of the Year’, ‘Pub of the Year’ and ‘Bartender
of the Year’, among others. In 2007 the NZ Bartender
Magazine Bar Awards will grow to include an extra five
categories such as ‘Bar Manager of the Year’ and even
more guests. The Bar Awards will once again be the official
after show networking function on the first night of
Auckland BarShow (17 July). The event will kick off at
7.30pm at the Hilton Hotel, Princes Wharf and will be
followed by an after party at Lenin bar. Bar Awards
finalists will be announced soon.
