Cool rewards on offer for youth who read
A new reading programme aimed at
encouraging youth to visit Manukau City Council’s
Libraries will run throughout July and August.
The programme called Manix, rewards youth for reading books of their own choice. Points are awarded for every book read. At the end of the programme, these points will be used in a giant prize draw.
Manix project co-ordinator Jody Gayton says, “We want to ensure young people find books they enjoy and their reading is rewarded. Manukau Libraries have heaps of resources for young people and we want to encourage them to use them.
“There are some great prizes up for grabs including, clothing and book vouchers, Playstation and xBox games, memory sticks and cellphone prepay cards.”
Library staff will be promoting Manix at various high school assemblies during June through a dance performance by the Mangere based dance group the Funky Munkyz. The theme of the performance will highlight the value of books and reading.
Members of Funky Munkyz were also part of the Mangere College group that won the Bring it on Dance championships for both Southern Zone (Manukau) and the Auckland Region 2006.
