‘Play it Again’ Auction

Just about every household has an unused musical instrument that could be turned into cash for the Nelson School of Music.

That’s the theory behind Play It Again, a charity auction for the Nelson School of Music that is looking for pianos, guitars, saxophones and any other unwanted instruments, music accessories or equipment. Coordinator, Joe Rifici says the Play it Again auction is a great way to find instruments a new home while supporting a good cause.

“People sometimes have heirlooms they don’t know what to do with - we’re hoping we might uncover some real gems lurking in the attic,” he said. “Items can simply be donated or their owners can elect to take a percentage of the selling price.”

Rifici says he hopes Play It Again becomes a nationally recognised annual fundraiser for the school.

Chairman and acting manager for the Nelson School of Music, Peter Robins says the auction is a great idea.
“Although we have received some funding from the Nelson City Council for operational costs, any money raised at the auction will help the long-term security of the school,” he said.

As well as musical instruments, Play It Again is also keen to receive sound equipment, for instance, microphones, PA systems, mixers, effects processors, stage/studio amplifiers or speakers, and recording gear. Sheet music and music folios can also be donated for sale.

A unique feature of the event will be live performances on the instruments and equipment offered for auction.

Play It Again will be held at the Nelson School of Music over the weekend of the 25th & 26th of August 2007 from 10am onwards. A catalogue and approximate auction times can be viewed at the Nelson School of Music or on http://www.playitagainnelson.com/ during the week prior to the auction. A running inventory of items will be listed on this site throughout the period leading up to the auction.
