Public Notification Welcomed
The Te Arai Coastal Lands Trust Ltd has welcomed the release of the public notification by the Rodney District Council of plans to provide for a new 450ha coastal park, a recreation reserve incorporating a golf links and trail system, and an 850 unit development at Te Arai beach.
The notification advertises the joint venture’s request for changes to the Operative Rodney District Plan and the Proposed Rodney District Plan and gives a 40 day period for interested parties to respond to the request.
A spokesman for the joint venture company, Ewen Henderson, said it was a good opportunity for people to get informed about the development.
“We’re looking forward to this process. It gives us an opportunity to have constructive and open dialogue with the local community and anyone else with an interest,” he said.
“We have already demonstrated our willingness to engage with all interested parties, this has been a positive process with the result that plans have been significantly refined to ensure that a sustainable balance is achieved between conservation, public access to the coastline, recreation and land use economics.
“We look forward to further feed back from all interested parties as we now move through the statutory process,” he said.
Submissions on the proposal close on Monday, September 17, 2007.
