Sir Barry Curtis leaves great legacy
Manukau Mayor Sir Barry Curtis has made a great contribution to the city in his time as a councillor and as our longest serving mayor says Councillor Dick Quax.
“Sir Barry has been at the helm since 1983 and in that time the city grown tremendously. The fact that Manukau is New Zealand’s fastest growing city is very much a result of the emphasis that Sir Barry placed on growth, economic development and infrastructure development,” said Cr Quax on learning of Sir Barry’s retirement.
“I certainly look forward to continuing the work that Sir Barry has dedicated so much time and energy to over the past twenty four years. He certainly leaves a great legacy.”
A poll of 638 Manukau people released last week showed that Dick Quax is the leading contender to replace Sir Barry.
